In Houston, a bathroom remodel that goes wrong almost never announces itself as a leak. It shows up as drywall that's gone soft around the tub, or tile that's come loose along the bottom row — months after a shower was "finished" by somebody who didn't waterproof it properly first. The Gulf Coast humidity here means a bathroom never fully dries out between uses, so any weak point in the waterproofing gets tested constantly instead of occasionally.
HM Flooring builds showers from the waterproofing out — the red membrane goes on and gets sealed at every seam and corner before a single tile is set. A recent job put a neo-angle glass shower in next to an existing corner tub — pebble mosaic floor, a tiled niche, both built new rather than around what was already failing. That's typical of Houston bathroom work: humidity has usually done enough damage by the time someone calls that the fix is a rebuild from the subfloor and wall cavity out, not a resurfacing.
